Welcome to the Political Blog of Brian Ravenswood. You’ve undoubtedly never heard of me and that’s fine. I didn’t start this Blog to get famous.
You’re also wondering how a guy who went to art school in Greenwich Village, NYC and then went on to work in the hallowed halls of the Liberal, Left-Wing News Media for over a decade became a staunch Reaganite at the age of 19 and developed into a hard line Right-Winger the longer he spent time around the enemy. How did a French Canadian (who took the oath of U.S. citizenship at age 18) move to one of the most Leftist cities in the USA, go through the Socialist Public School System, spend all his time with artists, musicians and actors while somehow remaining utterly immune to the mental plaque known as Leftism? All while maintaining his sanity!
Well sit right back, and I’ll tell the tale, a tale of hardship and woe. In case you ever wondered if someone like me exists, the answer is a resounding YES!
For the record, I’m not really all that conservative. For the most part, my daily life is pretty bohemian. The majority of my friends are other artists and performers. None of whom know anything about my political beliefs. Even the ones I’ve known for over twenty years. And it’s not that I’m deliberately keeping what I believe a secret from them, they’ve just NEVER asked!
I made a promise to myself that if one day someone politely asked me where I stand politically I would tell them but in the Art World, that’s not going to happen. When you are in the Creative Community, it is just assumed (quite arrogantly) that you are a Left Winger. No one will ask for your opinion because they narcissistically believe yours is identical to theirs. That’s just a fact of life.
Also, I don’t go to Church or wear a Suit & Tie. Visually, I look like a roadie for Aerosmith. While walking down the street complete strangers have asked me if I use to play bass for Gregg Allman because they were sure we met on his last tour. Someone once asked me if I was Kris Kristofferson’s stunt double from the movie ‘Blade.’ (I, of course, said, “Yes!”)
If you have young children, I’m probably not someone you’d want around them due to my short temper and foul language. Patience isn’t my strong suit. On the other hand, though, I can honestly say that I have never touched a drug in my life or had the urge to. From the age of five on I always found them revolting and nothing I ever had interest in. I also rarely drink alcohol, mainly because I hate the taste. And in case you’re wondering, I’ve never smoked pot either.
So why did I name this website ‘The Creative Conservative’ if I’m not that conservative? Because all the other website names were taken and I needed something that sounded catchy.
And for the record, I no longer believe in the political concepts of “Liberal” and “Conservative.” After years of observation and personal experience, I’ve come to the conclusion our world is divided into Chaos and Order. The political Left embodies chaos in everything it says and does while the other side, what we call Conservative, represents a desire for Order and stability.
Notice I said a “desire for order” and not order itself. Conservatives are flawed creatures (like all humans). Many have a difficult time agreeing with each other. One of their positive traits is they do not possess the subconscious urge to self-destruct Left-Wingers do.
And so, those of us with the same desire to live, survive and thrive must join forces and fall, even reluctantly, under the banner of “Conservative.” Maybe one day something better will come along but don’t hold your breath.
One of the reasons I started this site is the belief I have that if there is one, then there is another. And another. There have to be other artists and creatives out there who aren’t filled with the suicidal urge to self-destruct like so many of our kind. Unfortunately, creative people are prone to depression and nihilism. It doesn’t take much research to look back at history and see how many artists and musicians drank themselves to death or abused themselves in some way.
Like becoming Leftists for example. The creative mind is drawn to all things self-destructive. Drugs, booze, alcohol, and Marxism. If you think I’m joking, I’m not.
Leftism, Marxism, Socialism, Progressivism. All of these things fall under the banner of what Winston Churchill called, “the philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.”
If you subconsciously crave misery you are unconsciously drawn to all things, Left Wing.
But right now you’re thinking, “Hey, Mr. Creative Conservative, that’s really very judgmental. You just can’t label everyone with Leftists beliefs that way. It’s wrong. You can’t do that.”
And to that I say;
“THE HELL I CAN’T!!!”
Like some kind of political Jane Goodall, I’ve lived amongst the Socialist primates for decades! Studying their behavior, watching them without their knowledge. Learning their ways and thought patterns. And I can firmly say I am free to make any type of intellectual judgment on them I see fit. You know why?
Because as much as Left-Wingers espouse the belief that judging others is wrong the sad fact of reality is there are no individuals MORE JUDGEMENTAL, MORE SELF RIGHTEOUS, MORE ARROGANT than a person with Left-Wing Political beliefs! They judge everything and everyone! Do you want proof? Try being a children’s book author in a Socialist country. Their politburos are able to ascribe political propaganda to anything. There is a Leftist Group that condemned ‘The Cat in the Hat’ by Dr. Seuss for being racist.
How’s that for judgmental?
